Stan Mortensen

General Counsel

Stan joined Seidler Equity Partners in 2018. He is involved in a variety of legal matters, including: coordinating the work of outside counsel on investment and exit transactions; assisting with due diligence inquiries; representing portfolio companies on acquisitions, divestitures, refinancings, equity holder matters, corporate governance, business agreements, disputes and employee matters; and drafting and negotiating miscellaneous agreements for Seidler.

Prior Experience

Stan began his legal career in private practice at Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi, LLP, where he practiced complex commercial litigation. Later he joined O’Melveny & Myers LLP, transitioning to a practice focused on securities law, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate matters. For the past twenty years Stan has practiced entirely in-house, serving as the General Counsel of both publicly-traded and private-equity backed operating companies. In those roles he served in both business and legal capacities on numerous acquisitions, dispositions, capital raises and general advisory matters. He has twice been nominated for the Orange County General Counsel of the Year award.

Education

Stan graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Continuing his education at BYU, Stan received his law degree from the J. Reuben Clark School of Law, where he graduated cum laude and served on the editorial board of the BYU Law Review.

Outside of Work

Stan is on the board of the Orange County Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society. He speaks conversational Spanish and is an avid cyclist. He has competed in multi-day mountain bike races in Patagonia, Chile, and Colorado. Stan and his wife have four children, two girls and two boys.
